1. Summary of ODA to Syria


Japan has been implementing economic cooperation with the Syrian Arab Republic in the fields of electricity, agriculture, water resource, medication, etc. The cooperation is highly appreciated at not only the official level but also the national level. Currently Japan is focusing on the following five fields and developing strategic cooperation.

(1) Modernization of Industries
(2) Water Resources Management and Effective Use
(3) Improvement of Social Services
(4) Environmental Protection
(5) Promotion of Regional stability in the Middle East

Japan is determined to continue economic cooperation more effectively based on the mutual trust which has been built through the past cooperations.

4. Technical Cooperation

Under the framework of techinical cooperation, the Japanese government is developing activities rooted in local society across the country in coordination with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Nearly 60 experts, research staff, Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV), and Senior Volunteers are participating in various activities in the fields of environment, physical distribution, and city planning (As of January, 2010).
