The Project for Improvement of a Mobile Library for the Inhabitants of Rural Areas of Idleb Governorate


1. Under the framework of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Cultural Projects, the Government of Japan has decided to extend to The Fund for Integrated Rural Development of Syria (FIRDOS)/The Syria Trust for Development a grant assistance totaling up to US$ (51,995) for the Project for Improvement of a Mobile Library for Inhabitants in Rural Areas of Idleb Governorate.

2. The signing ceremony took place on Monday, November 29, 2010 at the Syria Trust for Development Headquarters in Damascus. H.E. Mr. Toshiro SUZUKI, Ambassador of Japan to the Syrian Arab Republic, signed the contract with Mr. Omar Abdulaziz Hallaj, Chief Executive Officer of the Syria Trust for Development.

3. Under the Project, a mobile library in the form of a bus equipped with modern illustration methods is going to be allocated to tour around the Governorate of Idleb. This equipment is extended to widen opportunities to exercise reading and promote this habit among the inhabitants of those areas.

4. Culture is one of the fields of importance Japan attaches to promoting friendship and cooperation with the Syrian Arab Republic and assisting Syria’s sustainable development. Over 25 projects to support sports and cultural activities have been offered in Syria since 1980.
