Exchange of Notes and Grant Agreement for a Japanese Cultural Grant Project for improvement of equipment in Japan Center, University of Aleppo
- The Government of Japan has decided to extend to the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic a grant assistance totaling up to 24.4 million Yen (about 270,000 USD) for a project entitled “The Project for the Improvement of Japanese Language Learning Equipment of Japan Center for Academic Cooperation at University of Aleppo.” H. E. Mr. Masaki KUNIEDA, Ambassador of Japan to the Syrian Arab Republic, and H.E. Dr. Amer Husni LUTFI, Head of the State Planning Commission, will sign the Exchange of Notes for the project at 11:00 on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the State Planning Commission in Damascus. On this occasion, a Grant Agreement of the project will be also signed between H.E. Dr. Ghiath BARAKAT, Minister of Higher Education, and Ms. Akiko TOMITA, Chief Representative, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)’s Syria Office.
- The gist of the project is as follows:
- The Government of Japan sincerely hopes that the procured equipment under the cultural grant project will be utilized effectively to improve the Japanese language education in University of Aleppo and further mutual understanding between Syria and Japan in academic and cultural fields to best serve the two friendly peoples.
1) Outline of the project
Under the project, a number of audio-visual equipments will be procured for the sake of language courses and academic events offered by the Japan Center for Academic Cooperation, University of Aleppo. Annexed is the list of the granted equipment.
2) Benefit of the project
The project is expected to bring the following benefits:
a. The primary beneficiaries will be about 150 people who study the Japanese language in the Center. They will enjoy more effective, more efficient and more diverse experiences of learning as the project improves the equipment.
b. The video library, which is to be established in the Center under the grant, will enable students to study by themselves outside the classes, promoting flexibility of learning and enhancing the Japanese language proficiency of the students.
c. This project will improve not only the classrooms but the hall which is open to public for cultural and academic events. Therefore, students outside the Center and citizens outside the university will benefit from the newly-installed equipment.
